Soroptimist is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls. The long term view is to enable women achieve their individual and collective potential, realize their aspirations and have an equal voice in the communities they live and worldwide. It was founded in 1921 Oakland, California.

Soroptimist International Lira (SI Lira) is one of the Soroptimist clubs in Africa, Uganda under the South African Network (SISAN) and SIGBI.

Soroptimists transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.

There are four Soroptimist Federations under the umbrella of Soroptimist International; Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Europe, Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland and Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific all working at local, national and international levels to Educate, Empower and enable opportunities for women and girls in the communities.  This is achieved through implementation of different projects by the various clubs worldwide.
